 Bhai Dooj, also referred to as Bhai Tika, Bhaubeej, Bhai Phonta, and Bhratri Dwitiya, is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates the special relationship between brothers and sisters. This festival is observed on the second day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik, typically occurring between October and November according to the Gregorian calendar. It signifies the conclusion of the Diwali celebrations, fostering familial bonds through love and joy. 

During Bhai Dooj, sisters engage in a traditional ritual for their brothers, invoking blessings for their health, prosperity, and longevity. They apply a tilak or vermilion mark on their brothers' foreheads and conduct an aarti. A beautifully adorned thali containing sweets, roli, and coconut is presented. In reciprocation, brothers offer gifts to their sisters, demonstrating their affection and appreciation.

The Aparahna Muhurat, considered the most auspicious time for the rituals associated with Bhai Dooj, will be from 12:49 PM to 03:07 PM (IST), lasting for a duration of 2 hours and 17 minutes. The Dwitiya Tithi will commence at 08:21 PM on November 2, 2024, and conclude at 10:05 PM on November 3, 2024.

The origins of Bhai Dooj are deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. One narrative recounts Lord Krishna's visit to his sister Subhadra following his victory over the demon Narakasura. Subhadra greeted him with flowers, sweets, and a ceremonial tilak, which established the tradition of Bhai Dooj. Another tale involves Yama, the god of death, visiting his sister Yamuna, who welcomed him warmly and performed the tilak ceremony. Yama proclaimed that brothers who receive tilak and sweets from their sisters on this day would be granted long and joyful lives.
