NorthEast United FC achieved a historic milestone by defeating Jamshedpur FC with a score of 5-0 in the ISL 2024-25 season, marking their largest victory to date.
NorthEast United FC delivered an outstanding performance before their home fans at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, culminating in a resounding 5-0 triumph over Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 this evening. The Highlanders secured their second victory of the season in impressive fashion, as their fluid attacking unit consistently breached the Jamshedpur FC defense throughout both halves. This match marks the club's largest victory in ISL history and the first occasion they have netted five goals in a single game within the competition. The Red Miners faced a significant setback when defender Stephen Eze was sent off in the 29th minute, reducing them to ten men. Nevertheless, the team coached by Juan Pedro Benali had already established an early lead, with Alaaeddine Ajaraie scoring just five minutes into the match. Buanthanglun Samte provided a simple pass to Ajaraie on the left flank, allowing the agile forward to trust his instincts and unleash a shot from distance. His expertly executed strike found the top right corner, thrilling the spectators and leaving them in awe. Two minutes later, Mohammed Bemammer located Ajaraie in an optimal goal-scoring position, allowing the Highlanders to extend their lead. Positioned centrally within the 18-yard box, Ajaraie attempted a strong shot, but it failed to result in a goal. The dynamics of the match shifted when Eze received a second yellow card just before the half-hour mark, enabling Benali’s team to exert complete control over the game's tempo from that point onward. NorthEast United FC has discovered a remarkable talent in Parthib Gogoi, who did not fail to impress this evening by scoring two goals, bringing his total to 10 ISL goals—the highest by any player in the league before the age of 22. While he captivated fans last year with his long-range strikes, Gogoi has refined his skills, which were clearly demonstrated in his two goals during this match. In the 44th minute, he made a well-timed run into the box to connect with Ajaraie’s squared pass, successfully placing the ball into the bottom right corner. Ten minutes into the second half, Jithin MS provided another assist for Gogoi, setting him up in an ideal position within the box. Gogoi capitalized on this opportunity, sending the ball into the top left corner to increase the team's lead. NorthEast United FC maintained their aggressive approach even after establishing a significant advantage. Substitute Macarton Nickson quickly made his presence felt, contributing to the scoring spree by placing the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the penalty area, assisted by Hamza Regragui in the 82nd minute. Ajaraie concluded the match by securing the fifth goal in the 90th minute, a result of a swift counter-attack orchestrated by Michel Zabaco, who identified the forward positioned centrally in the box.
